During our overnight stay in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam, we made a short side excursion to Cua Van fishing village.
Cua Van is the most perfectly contained and self-sufficient community, with floating houses, floating school, community center and bar, snack boats, and even dogs!
For children, there's no walking to school in the morning. Nope, you hop in your boat and sail on over. Can you imagine?
Some entrepreneurial residents even thought we might be hungry...
Pringles or OREOs anyone? Why yes, please...
How about some shells?
While we were there, someone with a beautiful voice in one of the floating houses started singing "Silent Night." Amazing. It was Christmas Day, after all.

Wow, that sounds so amazing! Did you guys actually stay there...like is there a little floating guest house? Or did you just float on by? I would love to see that! The Pringles would just be a bonus.
What fun pictures! Remind me of parts of Bangkok, Thailand, where we were years and years ago. Children going to school on boats, floating shops, and so on.

Those babies are adorable! I think floating villages are charming but I get sea sick. What do you do if you live in a place like this and our prone to sea sickness?

I wondered about that too... and also how do the parents keep the kids from falling right in when they turn their heads for a second?
I love the large bodies of water, but living in a floating village is pretty unfathomable for me! But I guess if it's what you've grown up with, you wouldn't think anything of it. When we went past these villages, I remember that the children there seemed very happy and friendly as they were rowing home from school! I can't believe they were trying to sell you Pringles and Oreos... it's crazy how far stuff like that can spread.

I can't quite imagine living on the water either...it's amazing how the kids learn to row themselves around at a very early age. they learn water safety and awareness from birth, I suppose

Thanks! I would love it if there were door to door pringle salespeople too. We use a Canon Rebel XSi camera
