Island Fever in Okinawa

A few weeks back, I mentioned that I was a runner-up in a writing contest.

My article has finally been published on a travel website called Transitions Abroad.

I wrote about my experience of living in Okinawa for the past two years and provided some important links for people who are considering being expats here.

Please check out my article Island Fever in Okinawa here.

This was so much fun and interesting to read. As you may know, I was born in Oki and left when I was 16. Went back for the first time in 2003, then 2007 and 2009. We are planning our next trip but aren't sure if it will be next year or the following year. Anyway, each time we visited, I told my husband I would love to live on Okinawa for a while. Not forever, but for up to a year or so. This makes me want to do it even more. Thank you so much for the article on the beautiful island I still think of as home, even after all this time (and it has been a very very long time). How much longer will you be on island?

Bingata,
Thanks! What an interesting background you have. I've met several others who have been been born here or lived as children and often return over the years. One friend of a friend even returned after like 40 years and found his old house!

You could certainly explore job opportunities here as the bases always advertise openings. Do you ever look at the job listings?

We'll be here for another year. It's hard to believe how fast time is going...

Hey marie,

I just read your article and really enjoyed it. It was informative, interesting and just personal enough (if I can say that).

p.s. are those jobs you wrote about only for Americans?

Hope you're having a great week!

Congrats Mary! I used to subscribe to Transitions Abroad when It was first published. I think it's a great publication, I'm glad you've connected with it, it will lead to more opportunities.

Reese,
Unfortunately, most of the job site links in the article are for US citizens only.

But there are always teaching jobs out on the economy...
