Reason #1 To Keep a Personal Blog

There's the very very bad computer and me, the girl who doesn't back up...

If your almost new computer crashes and takes all your photos and videos of the last year with it, at least a few shreds of your life are preserved in cyberspace.

Has this ever happened to you? How did you cope?

ooh sorry to hear about that. I usually download my photos onto a CD-ROM. When our computer crashed, I bought a hard disk reader. It lets you take the "brain" out of your computer and then you can read it with your new computer. I downloaded all the photos that were on the hard disk, then bought a USB memory stick to load in all the other documents and stuff I had.
Hope you can do this. Take care.

Oh no, sorry to hear! I used to burn my photos to disks but I haven't done that in a while. Good luck.

Oh no!! I feel your pain. My hard drive broke awhile ago. Luckily Alex and I have all the pictures of our trips on both computers but for some reason our Tokyo pictures weren't on his. I was completely devastated. Luckily most of the photos were on facebook and some on my personal blog so it wasn't that bad... but we have backed up EVERYTHING since. What happened to your computer? If it's the hard drive there are some places that you can pay to take it apart and recover as much data as possible - it costs a small fortune though. Good luck!

learn the lesson. cry it out, and buy an external hard drive and BACK UP. nobody makes it easier to do than apple's time machine. for real.

are you absolutely sure nothing is recoverable? sorry, girlie. not a usual apple situation either :(

I'd send the hard drive to a reliable shop and see what they can recover from the drive. From then on I'd highly recommend Mozy.com. $4.95/m for automated backups stored in a safe data center somewhere.

I don't work for them or anything, I just use their service and it's great for travelers.

I have been inspired to back up all my pictures after reading this post. I have been meaning to do it for some time now, but have been LAZY. Got my flash drive in hand and ready to rock!
