I can't say that I really believe in all that kind of thing. But if I'm completely honest, I did visit a fortune teller years ago at the San Diego County Fair of all places who was dead on accurate about some events in my life.
So, recently when the topic of conversation in one of my English classes turned to mysticism, I was intrigued to learn that fortune telling is quite popular among Okinawans. In fact, there are even several places here catering to English speaking clients.
Our latest video adventure starts with a walking tour of some ancient stone steps near Shuri Castle and ends in a very "unexpected" fortune telling venue.
Take a look! As always, you can also view the you tube version.
Have you ever visited a fortune teller? Was it worthwhile or waste of money?

Next year! If you think your month of living dangerously was fun, wait until there is a little McPherson in the picture - every single day is an adventure in doing, seeing, and/or hearing something you have never done before. For instance, have you ever seen a 2 year old mix apple juice, yogurt, milk, and Lucky Charms together and tell you after eating almost all of it, "Daddy try it, it's super yummy!". Or witnessed the look on a child's face the first time they bite into a lemon thinking it is the same thing as an orange? Or had the joy of walking into your 3 year-olds room just in time to witness his version of the exorcist? Are you up for the mystical challenge?
Tom,
your description is great! But isn't there also a lot of poop and waking up in the middle of the night? to answer your question, yes, i am up for the mystical challenge. I was just so shocked at how fast the psychic honed in on THAT topic!
Wow Mary! Baby? Best of luck. Where exactly is Mr. Furuda located? Interesting story idea for Hai Sai.
To answer your question, yes, there is a significant amount of poop, green gook coming out of noses, pee, and years and years of waking up in the middle of the night. We are still trying to convince Sammy that he doesn't need to walk past two bathrooms at 3 am to wake me up to take him to the bathroom, and he is going to be 5 in a month! But it is SOOOO worth it. Good luck with meeting the mystical challenge!
Chrissy,
Mr Furuda is on Kokusai Street in downtown Naha. He's right on the main drag near Mitsukoshi Department store.
You'll have to let us know how things turn out!
I like the Japanese tradition of Omikuji fortune telling, if you don't like the fortune, you stick it to the tree in the temple and the bad luck stays there instead of coming with you
