We're getting super excited... Our trip to Cambodia and Vietnam is coming up soon.
This is a trip I've been wanting to do for some time. One of my favorite ways of getting "ready", or at least building anticipation is watching films that feature my destination.
So far, our list consists of:
2. The Lover
3. Indochine
Anybody out there have any more favorite movies to recommend showing scenes of Vietnam or Cambodia?
What do you usually do to prepare for a trip?

well... there is apocalypse now... but i don't suppose that's in such a positive light. Or Good Morning Vietnam? :)
Aviva,
Yes, Apocalypse Now, while a fine work, doesn't make us eager to visit there...but Good Morning, Vietnam is perfect!
Hi Mary! When are you going? We did Cambodia in Feb 08 and LOVED it and I'm doing Vietnam (3 weeks!!!) with a girlfriend in Oct-Nov. I watched the Quiet American and it definitely pumped me up. Also, I'm reading Catfish and Mandala which is about Vietnam too. Can't wait to hear about your trip!!!
McKay,
We're leaving in about 10 days... any recommendations for things to do or see in Cambodia? Did you ever make it to that flooded forest village?
Indochine is a beautiful film, not to mention the main actor is absolutely gorgeous. Although my French isn't the best (you'd think I'd be better at it after 4 years including French AP) but still I love watching this film. The scenery and imagery is beautiful too. Enjoy Vietnam and Cambodia!
Looks like you got spammed by Travis/Sarah there at the top...
We actually stayed in the Continental Hotel in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) when we were in Vietnam a few years ago...cool historical place. It is featured in the book The Quiet American.
Cambodia and Vietnam are so beautiful, have great food, great people and are definitely worth spending some time in. We loved our trip there...we need to go back to Vietnam as we didn't get to see any of the northern part.
You can't go wrong with The Lover and Indochine (2 of my faves). The soundtrack for The Lover might get you in the mood too.
Unfortunately, most movies featuring Asian cities are either war related or a historical documentary - Killing Fields, Apocalpse Now (which was filmed in the Philippines).
Take a scooter trip while you're there....
